Vilnius

A problem free one and half hour train journey ftom Kaunas to Vilnius, capital of Lithuania.

typical scenes from train window

Into Vilnius, a good km from station to our hotel, we are right in the middle of the old town .
View from our bedroom window, yes we are in the atic, the climb up with backpacks almost finished me off.

Dropped off our gear then out to explore. Vilnius's Old Town is the oldest in Eastern Europe and has a well deserved UNESCO listing. A real buzz about the place, lots of shops selling amber and linen, up market shops and of course hundreds of cafés .
Knuds lunch, Creamy wild mushroom soup served in a bread bowl
I had Layered Herring , herring, potato, beetroot, peas & mayonnaise , delicious. Also featured on the menu was Curdled Milk , and another gem Stripes of hot smoked pigs ear ! I'm all for exploring new cuisines but I draw the line here.
So after a great lunch, fortified we set off exploring.
St Casimir's Church
Gates of Dawn
Can't say it has ever occured to me that so many people wanted to bring their pigs with them when they went out that it would necessitate have a sign prohibiting them being bought into a restaurant. You live and learn.
Love this bit of street art
inside of All Saints, bit OTT.
these murals I liked too.

This sums things up.
