Tallinn

Tallinn,  capital of Estonia.  Set on a hill this walled , two tiered,  town is gorgeous and stunning. A mix of old and new that all seems to blend. Settlement in this area date back to 2500 BC by the Finno-Ugric people. Trading town around the 9th century,  the Danes arrived in the 11th century,  a huge battle led by King Valdemar 11, looked like they were losing and about to retreat when surprise surprise out of the sky fell a red flag with a white cross ! This of course was taken as a good sign and one that meant they should keep fighting, the fought , won the battle, and stayed. So not only did they gain more territory they also gained a flag! The same flag the Danes still use to this day.
Danes not there for long before they were kicked out, German traders arrived , the a bit latter the Danes got control again then latter it became a Hanseatic town. Tallinn prospered and became one of Europes biggest towns. A bit of conflict between those living on top of the hill and those on the lowere section saw a fortified wall being built.
After Hanseatic League lost its power in 16th century the Russians,  Swedes,  Danes, Poles and Lithuanians fought over the Baltic region. Suffered greatly in WW11 with bombing by the Russians. Under Russian control until early 1990's .
Following in no particular order are photos taken while walking  and walking.

This is where the Danish Flag fell from the sky!
