Venice to Chioggia

Helmut, our guide, and Chi Chi an amazing 86 year old whose family make the best gelato in Italy ( according to Helmut)

After Vita Punga left the mooring in Venice we made our way over to Lido where we were finally on our bikes. A lovely ride around the island, calling in for gelato, yum, a little latter a swin in the Adriatic ( we really are spoilt with our beaches in Australia )
Lyn with first gelato

a brief stop

We next caught a ferry over to Pellestrina and cycled the length before rejoining Vita Punga

Vita Punga cruising past to meet us at end of island.

Everyone on board, bikes on board then off to Chioggia where we moored for the night. Chioggia a working fishing port/town

Last few postcards of Venice

Gondola racing practice?

Had a great afternoon on ferry , hopping on hopping off as the whim took us

Lunch, spaghetti cooked in squid ink. Yum

Rubbish pick up, everything done by boat

Patterns of Venice

Venice postcards

First night on board Vita Punga

Lept off at our stop and followed detailed directions to port on other side of island, left, right, left, right through park out onto promenade, go through gate and Vita Punga at end of quay.

Our 'home' for next week a 89 year old Dutch barge ( talk about a busmans holiday ) 36 mt long 5.5 mt wide she is twice the size of Linquenda. Alloted our cabin, tiny bathroom but very adequate. Met our fellow passages, tour guide, crew, all very nice. Beautiful dinner.

Venice

What a gorgeous city. Swam to our ferry , chaos as tourists flapped about with soggy maps, luggage etc. Within a few minutes the wind died down, rain stopped . Venice bathed in a glorious light, camera went into overload.

Munich to Venice

Another early start, lucky hotel close to station. A smooth hassle free trip, passing through stunning scenery.

Huge mountains, almost forgotten what they looked like after all this time on the lakes and flat country.

Knud and David got off in Verona ready for their cycling adventure, Lyn & I continued on to Venice. Busy station, got ourselves organized with our 48 hour transport ticket then as it was 2pm thought a late lunch a good idea

found an outside cafe so sat ourselves down

Oh , is that rain?

yes it is, on with the rain coats as it appears the roof not really water proof

yes roof certainly leaking, cafe evacuated

cyclonic conditions erupted, gale force winds, we are actually inside and the wind amazing

Would we ever make it to the water ferry?
